Get ready for the EUDR
From January 1, 2026, large companies will be required to have implemented the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). From July 1, 2026, this requirement will also apply to small and medium-sized companies.
The regulation sets out clear requirements for companies that market products made of wood, cocoa, rubber, coffee, oil palms and cattle. For these products, due diligence must be exercised throughout the entire production, right up to delivery.
According to the German Federal Office for Agriculture and Food, this also applies to packaging: ‘If an affected packaging is placed on the market or exported as a separate product and not as packaging for another product, it falls under the regulation and is therefore subject to due diligence obligations.
Packaging products classified under HS code 4415 which are used to ‘support, protect or carry’ another product are not covered by EUDR.
This means that brochures, books and other printed matter are also subject to due diligence and the recipient of your printed products (market participant) must comply with due diligence obligations. You as supplier must provide them with the necessary documentation. If your customer is a large company, they may require their SME suppliers to provide proof of compliance already.

As the figure shows, we provide you with functions both for fulfilling due diligence and for registering new products. The verification process is automated with material booking. Before printing delivery notes, the system automatically generates a new reference number for the delivered products, referencing all material used during production. The new number is passed on with the printed delivery note.
Your next steps
Check your obligations regarding the deadlines for the introduction of the EUDR processes. Also coordinate with your customers. They may request the processes before the legal deadlines.
Clarify with your suppliers which of the delivered products are subject to EUDR. This is not limited to paper, but also to other products containing rubber, palm oil or cellulose. Request your suppliers to print the reference number on the packaging label as a bar or QR code. This enables easy and secure number registration during goods receipt.
As a user of printplus druck you will receive the EUDR extensions as part of software maintenance as a Hotfix for version 2024.0.0.x. Please update your productive environment to this version as soon as possible and you will only need to install a supplementary Hotfix later.
In inventory management, tracking individual rolls or pallets is essential. If you already have this in place, the foundation for EUDR processes has been set. Otherwise, we recommend implementing these processes in preparation for EUDR.
Do you already use the printplus druck logistics terminal? The EUDR extensions will only be available for the latest version compatible with Datalogic Skorpio X5 scanners, older Falcon scanners will no longer be supported.

This illustration shows the EUDR process from forest to end product. Reference numbers are generated based on geo-data of harvested trees. Every batch delivered will have a different number.
For users of printplus druck x or printplus druck without inventory management, we will provide a cloud-based app solution. You can continue to work with your current software version. The cloud-based solution can even be used by print buyers or print shops without a Printplus MIS.
Important Note:
The proposed solution is based on currently publicly available information and has not undergone legal review. Users are responsible for ensuring compliance with legal requirements and correctly implementing the required processes.
